Who Are We? The Rainbow Center is located at 741 St. Helens Ave., Tacoma. We can be reached by telephone at (253) 383-2318 or by email at info@rainbowcntr.org. Our board of directors is made of long-time Tacoma activists and community members from all walks of life. They include: Co-Chair: Patricia McIntyre has been a board member since the Fall of 2006, she has been employed at The Boeing Company for over 16 years in both Human Resources and Disability Management. She currently serves on the steering committee of the Pierce County Pride Foundation, was appointed to the City of Tacoma Human Rights Commission, and is a member of the Boeing Employees Association of Gay and Lesbians and friends (BEAGLES). Co-Chair: S. Troy Christensen has been with the board since 2003. He works for Pierce County Human Services administering a variety of programs for people affected by mental illness and homelessness. Troy holds Master's Degrees in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, and Health Administration. He is involved in many social justice issues including ending homelessness, and equal rights for all minority classes. Secretary: Robin McKinney is a fantastic conversationalist and former Brown & Haley snackager--er packager who has just recieved her Masters of Business Management. She is also serving as Treasurer of Out in Tacoma. Treasurer: Gwen Noble is the former Executive Director of Tacoma's African American Heritage Museum. She has a lifelong comittment to diversity issues, and is currently director of South Puget Sound Community College's office of Diversity and Equity. She is in no small part responsible for SPSCC's hosting of 2007's Power of One queer youth leadership training conference. Member at Large: Athena Elrod is the Family Resources Coordinator Supervisor for Pierce County Human Services in Developmental Disabilities. She has worked with non-profits for 18 years. She currently volunteers with the Special Olympics and the Rainbow Center. Member at Large: L. Rachel Kaufman, MD is a medical doctor with an extensive background in visual art. We're not sure how often these overlap, but her eye and organizational skills are invaluable at ourt art auctions. Ms. Kaufman's charm is only occaisionally upstaged by her frequent companion, Tribble, the world's most darling welsh corgi. Member at Large: Willie Painter Member at Large: Aurora Jewell Member at Large: Ellen Hardin, MD Member at Large: Scott Morgan Advisory Member, Nominating Committee Chair: Kim Burkes has been with the board since 2001. A Mississippi native (with Cajun leanings), she relocated to Tacoma in 1996 with pit stops in Berkeley, Eugene, and Omaha. Kim has been a Nuclear Pharmacist for 20 years, but mostly enjoys karate, wine making, and cooking. She is also involved with the Pierce County Pride Foundation, Coalition for Marriage Equality, and a variety of other like-minded organizations. Advisory Member, Nominating Committee Member: Maggie Webb, CPA, has served as a board member nearly since the Rainbow Center's beginning. Our community relies heavily on Maggie's tax acumen, making her a bit of glue that binds us better together. Advisory Member: Lorenzo Cervantes
Employees: Executive Director: Aimee Welch has a background in social work, program development, evaluation, non-profit administration and law. While Aimee considers Houston home, having graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, she is proud to have been adopted by Tacoma.
